Director of Product and Engineering 

About the role: 

As the Director of Product Engineering, your role will be the linchpin of the organisation, continuously solving, discovering and building new solutions and experiences for our users both internally and externally. You and your team will create a seamless delivery of our services supported by intelligent software that is fit for blitz-scaling and globalisation. 

About you:

We are seeking a mission-driven, hands-on, Product Engineering leader who is passionate about delivering impactful solutions for users through streamlined, technology platforms and products. With both a commercial mindset and engineering background, you will work with the Head of Data to identify the industry challenges and opportunities to boldly, adapt and build new features and functionality for our users. 

A key focus of this role is to ensure that Cera’s technology helps us to provide great care to all of our customers while improving the experience of everyone involved in care delivery. We are disrupting a world-wide challenge in social care and require someone with confidence and capability to execute our mission and scale it globally as we grow. 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a deep understanding of our customer needs and the technical architecture of our platforms and services 
  • Lead, hire and develop a high performing Product Engineering organisation to manage and develop the relevant code bases, ensuring a consistent high standard of the software delivered
  • Identify and design best practice Product Engineering structures that support new product development and frequent software releases 
  • Using intimate knowledge of our careers and users problems, identify opportunities for our software products to evolve and improve both internally and externally
  • Build close relationships with senior management and all layers of the organisation to have a firm finger on the pulse for innovation, growth and cost saving opportunities 
  • Work closely with the Head of Data to collect and analyse feedback from customers, stakeholders and other teams to shape requirements, features and end products
  • Able to present new ideas and implement opportunities from conception, all the way through to execution, using solid product plans, roadmaps and requirements for engineers to clearly follow
  • Drive innovative collaboration within the Product Engineering team to ensure that delivery is aligned with the ever changing needs of the business
  • Manage and refine the business release process, integrating development delivery and cross functional activity to deliver products that can be tested and shipped at speed
  • Be a technically inspiring leader who has the experience to know which technological solution will work best, taking into consideration the current architecture, stack, environment, budget and goal
  • Able to confidently lead and contribute to architecture discussions as well as support with peer-peer code review where required
  • Create an open, collaborative and creative culture that that will influence and grow the current Product Engineering team
  • Embrace full autonomy to implement the software and technology solutions, you believe to be best, as recommended by your team
  • Use your social presence to be a company evangelist and raise awareness about the awesome products you and your team will build
  • Play a pivotal role in optimising and automating as much of our care solution as possible
  • Implement your ideas into a collaborative and autonomous environment
  • Listen to our carers voices to develop and implement next generation technical product strategies, consistent with Cera’s company vision
  • Ensure products and releases are launched correctly and on schedule 

Background & Experience:

  • A passion to serve customers and to make an impact on the society
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other STEM related subject with strong academic performance – MBA or graduate degree is a plus, but not required if experience combined with curiosity/drive compensate
  • Demonstrable experience as a Head / Director of Product Engineering - gained in a product-led, consumer and/or service industry where you have directly designed software product solutions, that have impacted the lives of its users
  • Proven track record of delivering customer-focused impact product, on time, and to high quality 
  • Confidence working with AWS / GCP and architecting cloud solutions that are fit for purpose, cost and scalability
  • Exposure to and understand of ML concepts and NLP frameworks and models
  • Experience of different product, research and development methodologies with an understanding of how and when to use them
  • Experience of launching multiple Product Engineering features that have made a measurable impact on key business metrics 
  • Proven ability to manage, recruit, and motivate a high-performing engineering team based in London, with an active network of aspiring engineering and product talent who will follow and join you on your journey
  • Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • All the skills of a Product Engineering leader, with the added passion and curiosity to build great product
  • Strong attention to detail and organisation
  • Experience in early stage, high growth companies where you have seen multiple iterations and pivots of products and have the battle scars to prove it 
  • You’re not afraid to get your hands dirty - you’ll be hands on with the team whiteboarding, creating requirements, mapping processes, and sometimes even building a few products yourself to help move things forward
  • A big thinker, experienced in building relevant, simple and long-lasting software solutions
  • An influencer, able to present to senior executives and clients with finesse, using data validation
  • Ability to write epics and stories which define the value proposition as well as, how to implement a specific solution
  • A pragmatic approach to prioritisation, identifying and implementing quick wins where appropriate
  • Experience in creating business process or value stream maps
  • A background working as a Product Engineer, within companies that move fast, change and evolve quickly to meet evolving customer needs
